About Christine Yates
I'm intrigued by how thoughts become words, become sentences; how images connect with senses in metaphor. How I feel so much happier, fluid and balanced when I'm expressing my creativity in whatever way. And how stuck, dull and rigid I feel when I'm not being expressive. How do we find our voice, express what we want to say how we want to say it? Connect our inner and outer worlds and communicate our story authentically and openly? How do we put our feelings into words? And why do we sometimes silence our authentic self?
Three years ago I went exploring. Seeking silence, wilderness and vastness to free ghosts and hauntings. Seeking space to heal the ache for creativity and expression I felt. Two winters writing constantly through Australian, Asian and Arabian wildernesses. Pushing boundaries, refreshing energy, absorbing change and new perspectives as I rediscovered what literally and metaphorically makes me tick. Found my own time; the time of my life. Now.
And let the creative whisper I heard in the Outback grow and strengthen its voice, its authentic voice, let it speak, write, sing, dance, live.

Experience
I’ve worked as a freelance Features Writer and Columnist, and an Editor and Critiquer. I write monthly articles on JourneyWords, and fiction. I have an M.A. in English Language and Literature from Oxford University, a Diploma in Counselling, and am multi-lingual.I lived, travelled and worked abroad for nearly ten years, returning to England in 2001. I trained and worked for several years as a Person-Centred Therapist, accompanying people as they recognised then accepted troubling edge-of-awareness feelings, ideas and thoughts and began to put them into words.
In 2001, my younger brother died from a genetic illness that some years before I'd been told I had too. My all-clear diagnosis at 41 was a second chance to live. A renaissance. It continues to drive my exploration of creative expression and personal development, and to share my journey in the hope it may inspire and support yours.
I live my life with passion. I love writing, dancing salsa & flamenco, music, singing, gardening, growing veg, making jam and chutney, painting watercolours, and taking photographs. And I'm a whizz on the washboard when we skiffle in the sitting room!
